getting new things

This has been a week for getting new stuff. Today I went to pick up my new diabetic shoes. Now most remember the old diabetic shoes. They came in two colors, black and brown, and one style, ugly. Now they come in lots of colors and some actually quite cool colors and styles. So here are my new shoes.     Just try and tell me they are not the most awesomest shoes ever.   Now next week the fun continues.   I was talking with a tech guy at AT&T and mentioned that I was gonna need to get a new phone as mine was starting to act up.  He mentioned that I had the Equipment Maintenance Plan.  What this means is that up to a total of $400 in a 12 month period, I can get a replacement phone sent for little or nothing.  If I had gone with a similar model it would have const nothing, but I decided to go for the upgrade for an extra $3.33 a month for 6 months.  It should be here by next Friday.   Finally, I went last week to be fitted for new glasses.  It takes about 2 weeks for them to be ready.  Then it is off to pick them up in Athens.  Once again, finding the right program, means the glasses are costing me nothing, but the cost of gas to go get them.  And it does not hurt that my absolute favorite book store is a few doors down.  I can't wait to break my glasses in by going shopping at B&N!   So that has been what is up with me.   Stay tuned.......

My new glasses - almost

Today I went to LensCrafters in Athens to have an eye exam and get new glasses. I was a bit nervous and very excited.  I'm always excited to get new glasses and always nervous that this will be the year they tell me they just can't make anything that strong.

So, I set out and had my exam.  The doctor found a few things we could tweak to get me a better set up.  First my old glasses were designed for distance vision.  Most of the activities I enjoy are up close, so the glasses were not what I needed.  So my new glasses will give me better close up an short range vision that the old ones.

And since I can be hard on glasses they are going to use a few new tricks to make my new ones less breakable.

So while it will be a couple weeks before I get my new glasses, I already picked out my new frames.  And here they are.

You know, it is funny, but my mom always said that with out my glasses my eyes were kind of creepy and dead.  Looking through glasses that have sample lenses and not my correct strength does make my eyes look a bit demented and dead.  Creepy, huh?

Oh well, once I get my new lenses and frames, I will be my old jolly self.

So.....

All My Faves

I've been visiting AllMyFaves for some time now.
If nothing else, I visit every Monday to soak up all the new sites for the week.
I might even try the weekly game fave.

Well now I get to have my very own Mini Faves page.
And here it is.
I get to pick my own lists of faves and create my own mini listing.
Right now I only have one line of faves, but I found out I can add as many as I want.
So if you want to see where I hang out online (other than Facebook), go and see my faves.
And if you get your own set, let me know.

Stay tuned.....

caveat emptor

"Caveat Emptor" let the buyer beware.

Well it had to happen.  Everyone has a bad auction experience.  So far mine have all been wonderful, until this week.  I bid on something, won it, got it and it was a piece of junk.  Now this would be the end of the story, but the person advertized the item as new and unopened.  Well it was opened, used and pretty much empty.  So going against my tendency to avoid confrontation, I filed a request to lodge a complaint and get a refund.  The other person has 5 days to respond or the refund becomes automatic.

The upside?  It was a listia auction and so no money was involved.  That and I can honestly say I have never had anything but the best experience with ebay.

Will I stop using auction sites? Nah, but I am pickier.  That and on ebay I stick to buy it now as much as possible.

So all in all, a bad but not horrible experience.  I'll live.  And when I get my refund, I will go find something else to bid on.

So......

Listia

I've been spending a bit of time at Listia.
Listia is a free auction site.  You list items and you bid on items.  The twist is you don't use cash, but points.  You'll find all kinds of odd stuff there to spend a few points or more on.

Wanna try it?  Go here and get 50 points to spend on your first bid.

Now excuse me, while I go find other cool stuff to bid on.

That *&^(*(& "F" word!

Okay, world!  Can we please just remove "that" word from vocabulary?  For the last week I have waged war on that word in my home.  I have told my friends that if they ever use it they will be asked to leave.  I've avoided movies and other programs that use words like that regularly.  And for the most part I was winning.

Then......

I get a book I have really wanted to read.  Guess what?  In the very first chapter.  In the very first couple dozen pages "that" word was used, not once, not twice, but 85 times!!!!!!  And what made it even worse to me was that the book did not use a single other bad word.

Remember how the Smurfs used the word "smurf" at least once every sentence and on some occasions several times.  Smurf was a noun, a verb, and adjective.  Well in this book, "'that' word is used the same way.

It's ugly, tasteless, offensive and just plain vulgar.  A person I value greatly told me once that "using foul language was a sign of a lack of education.  Cursing is what you do when you have nothing intelligent to say."

So, smarten up world, talk like you have a brain.  Or remember what the Bible says.

"Pro 17:28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is consideredwise; When he closes his lips, he is considered prudent."

Buckaroo Ranch

My first experience with school.  It was a little place up on a hill. I would go for a few hours each day and play, learn and have a good time.  Buckaroo Ranch was the kind of place you wanted your kids to go to, because when they were ready to leave to go to "big kid" school, they had already learned to love it and want to go more.

BTW, in case you are wondering, I am the little kid in the glasses and yellow shirt on the back row.
I was a cutie. (Still am)

Pizza

I know I should not have ordered pizza.  I always feel awful the day after.  However, I could not bring myself to eat one more chicken strip.  My sanity was at stake.  So I ordered the pizza, actually two.  It was a minimum order thing.  Then I ordered cheezy bread.  They were kind of bland.  Then to completely crash and burn, I ordered one of those fudge lava cake things.

When I saw the box, I was a bit deflated.  It was SO tiny.  I ate it and it was like 4 bites.  It was good, but not THAT good.  Won't be ordering that again.  Well, once more but only because I have a coupon for a free one.

So I had pizza for supper.  And I will probably have pizza for lunch or supper tomorrow.  Now if only I can get through tomorrow without a major upset stomach.

Stay tuned....
